Hiatus
Hey Everyone!
This post has been a long time coming. I haven’t posted in a while and wanted to explain why. Back in July 2019, I decided to take a break from the blog once I got pregnant with baby number 2. I did the same with baby number 1. The reason is because I get overwhelmed during pregnancy and prefer to take it easy in my free time. I admire the women I see who not only continue blogging, but work even harder during pregnancy. I had the bad luck of getting sick during my pregnancies, so it was very important to me and my mental health to take it easy when I could. But nonetheless, I really missed my blog. So here I am, back at it. FINALLY!
(Pregnant and didn't know it)
What have I been up to?
At the beginning of my “hiatus” I went to Sicily for 2 family weddings. I went about 6-7 weeks pregnant which was definitely a challenge. But worth it. My family finally got to meet our little Luca, which was so special for me. My heart felt so full. Plus, we got to share the news that we were expecting again in person!

What made the trip extra special was getting to also have my little cousin Giovanni there for his first time too. I'm so happy Luca was able to share that experience with his cousin. We were also lucky enough to even get to see my best friend there and our boys got to enjoy their first trips to Sicily together too. It was nice to see history repeat itself especially since we went to Sicily together as kids too.

The main events were my cousins’ weddings. I got the privilege of being the Maid of Honor for my cousin Sonia. She’s basically the sister I never had and she also was my Maid of Honor. It was really wonderful to stand by her side on her big day.

I also got to be with my fathers big family for another cousins wedding. Needless to say, we partied...a lot! It was a great time.

But after the weddings we came back home to the states and got back to reality. We celebrated Luca’s first birthday - separate post to come - while also doing a gender reveal at the party. What better gift to give our little guy then by giving him a best friend for life right?

After all the traveling and parties we did take things easy. We spent time at home and just prepared for baby number 2. In a world where we are always striving to do more, always be constantly productive and never take a break - I did the opposite. I don’t regret it one bit. I think it’s important to know you don’t always have to be productive if you don’t want to be. It’s ok to just take time to relax and simply do nothing. Not that there is anything wrong with finding ways to be productive in your off time, I’m just saying it’s also ok to not be. In the words of Elizabeth Gilbert:
“Il bel far niente means 'the beauty of doing nothing'... [it] has always been a cherished Italian ideal. The beauty of doing nothing is the goal of all your work, the final accomplishment for which you are most highly congratulated.”
I plan to share more about some moments from my hiatus with everyone soon. It’ll be nice to have a creative outlet again, especially during these hard covid times. We’re definitely doing our part now and trying to stay home more to keep ourselves and others safe.

If you made it to the end of this post, thanks for taking the time to do so. I hope you stick around for more!
Love, Rosie
